RSE (Relationships and Sex Education)

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is compulsory for all pupils in Wales. Contrary to popular belief, RSE isn’t primarily about the mechanics of sex and reproduction; much of that learning is already addressed through our core Science lessons. Instead, RSE is about building positive relationships in all aspects of our lives; with peers, with family, with ourselves. It’s about learning to navigate the challenges of modern life; for teenagers, much of this will be learning to deal with the online world and coping with its influences. At Llanwern, our fortnightly RSE lessons and materials are mainly provided through the learning platform Jigsaw. This ensures consistency, helping us meet our statutory requirements and providing learning in line with national and UK standards. However, we are also keenly aware of our own pupils’ particular needs, and tailor our learning to the issues that most impact them.

If, as a parent, you would like to view Jigsaw’s materials, you can do so via this link: https://jigsawpshe.online/parent/welcome

If you have any questions or concerns about RSE and your child’s education, feel free to email the RSE lead, Dr. Anderson [andersonv42@hwbcymru.net] or Senior Assistant Headteacher and Safeguarding Lead Mrs Pearse [pearsel@hwbcymru.net].
