Headteacher's Fortnightly Update - 13th October

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Paul Moreno in Year 11 for his selection to the Wales Under 16 Football team for their upcoming matches.  A fantastic achievement for a very talented player!

Our Open Evening last week was a very enjoyable and busy evening.  It was lovely to see so many families enjoying all of the exciting activities available.  We look forward to working with pupils and their families over the rest of the school year as part of our transition into school.

Can I make another plea to those of you dropping off and picking up children to do so safely and considerately?  We have had a number of near misses with cars over the last few weeks and as the school numbers grow so will the necessity to be safe and considerate.  Please use the bus bay to turn or alternatively drive to the end of the road and use the overflow car park to turn.  Please also refrain from parking on bends or performing 3-point turns.

The standard of uniform has been very good since the start of term and we are very grateful for your support in maintain a high standard.  We have been informed the school cardigans are now available for purchase from both Macey and Beam.  From half term, only plain black cardigans with the school logo will be permitted to be worn in school.  Hopefully, the introduction of school cardigans will be a welcome addition to the uniform.  Can I also remind you that hoodies (zipped and non-zipped) are not part of the school uniform and should not be worn in school?

We have been very pleased with the improvement in attendance to school this term.  Again, thank you for your support with this, particularly the families who have been working closely with us to improve attendance.  We are still working hard to improve lateness in the morning.  As a reminder, pupils should be in their classroom for 8:40am so should be arriving in school in time to do so.  We offer a free breakfast club in the school hall for any pupils who arrive before the doors at the back of school open.

Finally, thank you to everyone who voted for the school to win a mural by the artist, Andy O’Rourke.  We were in a strong position throughout but we haven’t heard the final outcome just yet.

Kindest Regards,

Mr D Lawlor
