Celebrations
Llanwern High School was recognised by the National Teaching Awards Cymru in 2022 by winning the inaugural Betty Campbell MBE award for promoting the contributions and perspectives of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people.
There are half termly cross-curricular themes that include form time activities, whole school competitions and challenges, culminating in end of theme events and reward experiences for the winning pupils.
Events have included our Taste's of Newport International Food Festival, Culture Fest organised by the school's student diversity group and Dragon's Den event where the Minister for the Economy for Wales, Vaughan Gething was one of our dragons.
Race Council Cymru have twice funded our Windrush celebrations.
2024: We were blessed by the presence of Bristol Carnival Veteran Norman Stephenson (aka Rubba) and his team who led dance and drum workshops for our Year 7 pupils.
Authentic Caribbean Food was provided by Yardiff Yum. The kids especially enjoyed the dumplings!
2023: renowned poet Duke Al Durham led poetry workshops on the theme of Windrush with our talented pupils.
