Safeguarding at Llanwern High School

Llanwern High School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all of our students is paramount and expects all staff and volunteers to adhere to school policy and protocol.

We believe that students have the right to learn in a supportive, caring and safe environment, which includes the right to protection from harm, abuse and neglect. Staff are trained and vigilant in identifying signs of distress and are confident about applying the processes to avert and alleviate any concerns. Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy is in place and reviewed annually to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students in our care. All staff, including supply staff, volunteers and governors ensure that they are aware of these procedures.

Safeguarding refers to the procedures in place if there are concerns about a child. Child protection is the steps taken to ensure the child is safe from harm, abuse and neglect.

Sometimes we may need to share information and collaborate with other external agencies when there are concerns about a child. Where possible we will ensure that concerns are discussed with parents / carers first.
