Headteacher's Fortnightly Update - 30th January 2026

So, after a busy week it is back to a written update this week.  I hope you found the video version helpful and I will hopefully be able to return to that in the next version.

We have been looking at the quality of learning over the last fortnight, visiting lessons and having discussions about how we can further improve the quality of learning.  Pupils have been outstanding in their approach to learning and their efforts in lessons and have been a pleasure to speak to and observe in their lessons.

Mock examinations have taken place for Year 11 to support them as they prepare for the summer series of exams.  Pupils have approached this very professionally and determinedly which will stand them in good stead for the real exams in the summer.

I have also had the pleasure of visiting the exam support sessions provided to Year 10 this week as they embark on their GCSE journey and all reports have been shared for Year 10 with targets and current predictions.  We will follow this up with revision support for both Year 10 and 11 pupils.

A careers fayre was held for pupils studying or looking to study construction courses.  A number of employers visited the school providing information and examples of employment opportunities in this sector.

There have been numerous sporting experiences over the last fortnight. I managed to see Year 8 score one of their goals in their Welsh Cup game, securing a solid win and snippets of some rugby games with some excellent skills on display.

ClassCharts is our method of communication with parents.  You can track attendance and behaviour and you will receive important messages through that method only.  If you are not currently accessing ClassCharts please contact the school for someone to assist you in setting up the free resource.

We have been overwhelmed with the take up for the ski trip that is being organised by Miss Ford.  I have always thoroughly enjoyed school ski trips, seeing pupils develop new skills and experience completely different climates, landscapes and cultures.

To finish, I wanted to share with parents of Year 7 & 8 a question.

Why does a flamingo lift one leg?

Kindest Regards,

Mr D Lawlor

Headteacher.
