Reading FC v Newport County AFC
October 18th, 2018 by Rhian Dobson
Newport made the long journey to take on Reading with both teams sitting at the top end of the league table. The first half started off reasonably even with very few clear cut chances created. After 20 minutes County began to dominate proceedings and took the lead when Ben Williams delivered a pin point cross from the right hand side for Luke Edgell to volley into the roof of the net.
The second period started quite scrappy in which the bobbly pitch played a big factor. On 56 minutes a nicely waited pass from Ivan Mohammed found Joseph Baston who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to double Newport’s lead. 10 minutes later it was 3-0 when Jake Clark played a quick combination with Josh Williams to calmly strike the ball past the outstretched goalkeeper. County soon added another when Jacob Perella worked extremely hard to regain possession of the ball and had the composure to find Luke Edgell who finished very well into the top corner to double his tally. Reading late on had a few half chances to get a goal back but never really made goalkeeper Brandon Powell work. In injury time Max Holley clipped a accurate ball into the box for Ivan Mohammed to head in to seal a 5-0 win.
Best wishes to Jermaine and his players for the rest of the season. We look forward to the return fixture at Llanwern High School.
