Miss Evans sings at the Aberfan Memorial Concert

October 11th, 2016 by Sarah Turnham

Our Music teacher Miss Evans proudly took part in the Aberfan Memorial concert on Saturday night at the Wales Millennium Centre.  There were over 150 people singing in a mixed choir along with a children’s choir of 116.  It was the premier of ‘Cantata Memoria’ which was composed by Sir Karl Jenkins to commemorate 50 years since the Aberfan disaster.

The disaster which happened on 21st October 1966 saw Aberfan devastated when a colliery waste tip collapsed, with slurry engulfing Pantglas Junior School on the last day before half term.  A total of 144 people died, 116 of them were children.

This concert was very moving as family member of those lost were in the audience.  Actor Michael Sheen read a poem about ‘hope and healing’.

A truly moving concert.
